"Twitter Art" was a brief but wildly popular movement from 2010 to about 2012. A modern version of older ASCII art done on typewriters, the idea was to break up people's twitter feeds of standard text, advertisements, and links with weird blocks of special characters that made no sense, and to create visual compositions resembling abstract art works in one hundred and forty characters. "Twitter Artists" like Andrea Pacione were noted in the French newspaper Le Monde and others.
